The Ethical Consumer publishes a guide to Supermarkets. It's worth noting the comment
"In most cases your local independent grocery or wholefood shop will be the most ethical place to shop." Now that Tony & Di have retired, we have only one village shop left. We can all make an effort to call in to Linda's Stores at least as often as we have 5 minutes to spare as we're passing. Linda is currently stocking olive oil produced by Palestinian farmers.
_There are lots of products carrying the Fairtrade Mark available locally.

What does the Fairtrade Mark on the packet mean?
Essentially, that all ingredients which can be Fairtrade are Fairtrade.
For instance, the ingredients in a tub of ice cream may include milk, cream or
strawberries, for which there are no Fairtrade standards. But it will also include sugar
and maybe vanilla, cocoa, coffee or nuts. All these must be certified Fairtrade.
Is it just the producer who must hold a certificate?
All operators in the supply chain, from the certified producer organisations through to
the companies licensed for the consumer-ready product, must be registered by one of
the FLO Labelling Initiatives or by FLO-CERT.
What is FLO-CERT?
FLO-CERT is an international certification company which is owned by FLO (Fairtrade
Labelling Organisation) International but which is autonomous and operates
independently. It is responsible for the inspection and certification of producer
organisations and traders against Fairtrade standards.
Auditors are sent to check that stock is managed, that sales reports are accurate
and that the premiums correlate to sales.
